Twitter users are now able to increase the security of their account by logging in HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) permanently.
Use Twitter via an HTTPS connection can "improve the security of your account if you access Twitter through an unprotected connection, a public WiFi network for example, where a third party could access your information," said Twitter on his blog Official March 15.
Google began offering the option HTTPS for Gmail in 2008, before deciding "it was better to establish HTTPS by default for everyone" in January 2010.Facebook has also offered its users a better control of their security by adding the option of a permanent HTTPS connection in January 2011.
Twitter was already accessible via secure protocol but until now PC users had to manually enter the address https://twitter.com .
To enable HTTPS by default, check "Always use https" at the bottom of the page to configure your Twitter account.Mobile users, however, will continue to enter https://mobile.twitter.com to ensure that their communication is encrypted and transmitted through a secure protocol (unless they use the official Twitter app for iPhone iPad, which uses HTTPS by default).
Twitter has announced that work to "extend" HTTPS only "at twitter.com and mobile.twitter.com, so the user does not have to think about the device he uses when accessing Twitter.
